Problems, Solutions & Impact

Many of these needs—such as safety concerns with the library and outdoor facilities—have been pressing issues for years. Addressing them piecemeal would only prolong the challenges faced by students and the community, delaying opportunities for growth and improvement.

CURRENT PROBLEM

Library Floorplan & Technology

A congested layout limits functionality and prevents efficient use of the space for group acivities and individual study.

Outdated technology and a collection of books that no longer fully support modern educational demands or STEAM initiatives.

Safety vulnerabilities exist due to an exposed design, including multiple entry points and an open mezzanine area, creating risks during lockdown situations.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

Redesign the layout to include an open floorplan that accommodates larger groups and supports a variety of activities from collaborative learning to quiet study sessions.

Incorporate movable shelving to allow flexibility in space utilization while also serving as additional safety barriers when needed.

Address safety concerns by decreasing entry points, enclosing mezzanine area, and implementing updated security protocols.

Enhance the library’s resources with modern technology, updated book selections, and designated areas for STEAM and post-secondary preparation programs.
